A smile and some trophy catfish! Three-year-old McKinzey Thompson caught the biggest fish of her young life on a late-August Sunday at Lake Burton Fish Hatchery's kids fishing pond. Using a toddler-sized fishing pole and catalpa worms for bait, McKinzey, with a little help from her grandfather, landed three channel catfish that weighed a total of 18 pounds.  The rookie angler's largest catfish weighed 8 lbs and 1 ounce. If that isn't a reason to "take a kid fishing", we don't know what is!

Impressive 1.75 pound bluegill from Tugalo. Nine-year-old Austin Hopper and his dad enjoyed a good outing on Lake Tugalo on July 9, 2004.  The highlight of the day was a huge bluegill that weighed 1.75 pounds!  According to Burton Hatchery fisheries biologists, this is the largest bluegill on record that has been caught from Lake Tugalo.
