Landcover of Georgia - Landcover Database
A landcover database for the state of Georgia was created using
Landsat satellite imagery from 1988 through 1990. Fifteen classes
of landcover, including wetlands, were derived from the imagery at
a resolution of 100 feet and an accuracy level of 85%. The database
has been distributed to local governments for use in planning, and
is available from the Georgia GIS Clearinghouse. A
higher-resolution graphic image of the database is available
at the website of the Center for Spatial Analysis Technology at Georgia
Tech.
Available through the Georgia Geologic Survey (404)657-6127 are
two products derived from this database. Project Report 26 (1996)
is a summary of landcover statistics by county. A 1:633,600-scale
large-format map titled "Landcover of Georgia" was published at the
same time and is also available. Questions concerning this database
and its use can be directed to the Georgia Natural Heritage Program
at (770)918-6411 or send us e-mail.
