2009 Georgia Hunters For The Hungry campaign - General Information
Collections for the 2009 Georgia Hunters for the Hungry (GHFTH) Program begin in September 2009. Last year, hunters in Georgia contributed 29,833 pounds of venison to this program (making a grand total of more than 250,000 pounds of venison donated since the inception of the program in 1993). All GHFTH sponsors thank the many hunters for their past donations and encourage your participation this season! We are expanding the program this season. Hunters can donate deer - at one of fifteen (15) processor collection sites that will be available throughout the season and at the weekend collection sites in Newnan, Rome, and Rockmart on November 7-8, 2009. Hunters interested in participating in GHFTH should bring field-dressed deer to any of the locations listed (see next 2 pages). All hunters who donate a field-dressed deer during this collection period will be entered into a drawing for a deer rifle, sponsored by the Georgia Wildlife Federation. You may also participate through our Drop-Back-A-Pack program at any of the fifteen (15) participating processors. You simply drop any amount of processed venison into the freezer marked "Drop Back A Pack" at the time you pickup your processed venison. GHFTH Sponsors are: Georgia DNR- Wildlife Resources Division & Parks and Historic Sites Division Georgia Wildlife Federation Georgia Department of Corrections Georgia Department of Agriculture Georgia State Association of Food Banks The drawing for the rifle winner will be held in February 2010 and the winner's name will be posted here. ADDITIONAL COLLECTION EFFORTS (outside of Georgia Hunters for the Hungry) While the GHFTH program collects a tremendous amount of deer, and has since 1993, the sponsoring partners of the program realize that there are many other donation programs that operate outside of this one. WRD would like to encourage sponsors or partners in other donation programs to contact our agency and let us know how many deer, and pounds of venison, were donated elsewhere so that we may recognize their efforts as well. To report other collection efforts, call (770) 761-3045 and provide the number of deer collected and the total number of pounds.
