Arrowhead Environmental Education Center
Arrowhead is located at the Wildlife Resources Division-Game
Management Section Regional office near Armuchee. The 337-acre
Wildlife Management Area was originally a farming community and
later developed into a privately owned fish hatchery. Bought
by the state in 1968, the hatchery was operational until
1979. Today the 14 hatchery ponds and three fishing lakes are
currently used to aid in the management of waterfowl and
wildlife.
The site offers a 2.2-mile interpretive nature trail, which
focuses on natural history and the native wildlife of the
area. This trail includes a wetland and four beaver
lodges. Although public fishing is not available, visiting
students on field trips may fish and take home their
catch.
The center began its operation in 1994. It is only open to
sponsoring school systems, which currently include Floyd County,
Calhoun City, Trion City, and Darlington schools.
