Weiss Fish Attractors

Map link is located towards the bottom of this page

Program Overview

The Brushy Branch-Weiss Lake Fish Attractor Program was initiated in 2005 as a joint project between Georgia Power's Plant Hammond Facility, the Alabama Power Co., the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR), and local anglers.  Through this cooperative partnership brush piles were placed at various locations within the Brushy Branch area of Weiss Lake in the summer of 2005.

The brush piles, or fish attractors as they are often called, have been placed on points, channel ledges, and flats.  Anglers can expect largemouth bass, spotted bass, sunfish, crappie, and catfish to potentially hold in and around the attractors at various times of the year.

The accompanying fish attractor location map will be updated annually to reflect the creation of new fish attractor locations.  For more information about this program contact the GADNR Summerville Fisheries Office (706-857-3394).

Hints for Locating the Fish Attractors

  • Hand-held GPS units will typically get you within 10-15 ft. of the attractors location.
  • Once in the general area use, depth finders to pinpoint the attractors exact location.
  • Once you have located a fish attractor, make mental notes of your surroundings so it will be easier to find on your next trip (ex. line up lake points, buoys, trees).
  • Mark the exact spot using small marker buoys to help keep your boat and casts on target.
