Why DNR needs your Social Security Number (SSN)
Why DNR needs your Social Security Number (SSN)Federal Law Came First(42 U.S.C. Section 666(a)(13)(A)) requires that states adopt procedures for the recording of Social Security numbers of all purchasers of recreational licenses. Next, State Law Was Passed(Ga. Code 19-11-9.1(a.1)), to fulfill the requirements of the federal law, requires that DNR obtain the Social Security number of all license buyers, and subsequently to furnish these numbers to the Department of Human Resources (DHR). No other dissemination of these numbers is authorized. What Will DHR Do With The Numbers?DHR will check these numbers against its database of non-custodial parents who are seriously in arrears on child support payments, to update their records and to aid in enforcing child support laws in Georgia. Refusal To Provide Social Security NumberIf a license buyer has a Social Security number and refuses to provide it, he/she is ineligible to purchase a hunting/fishing license. The GOALS license terminals cannot be overridden to allow a license sale without the Social Security number being provided.
