Nothing in these regulations allows the taking or disturbing of State and Federally protected fish, turtles, mussels, or other wildlife. There are currently 55 fish species, 7 salamander species, 14 mussel species, and 13 turtle species on the state protected list. Additionally, all nonvenomous snakes are protected. Many of these species may be encountered while fishing. It is unlawful to capture, kill, or sell any of these protected species.
