Properties Requiring GORP

Where is a GORP needed?

The 31 affected properties (see list below) are Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and Public Fishing Areas (PFAs). Each is managed for wildlife/fish habitat and development and funded mostly by revenue from hunting and fishing licenses. Other uses, such as hiking, cycling, caving, bird watching and many other such activities, are also allowed.

2. Beaverdam WMA (Laurens County): Shooting Range

3. Big Hammock WMA (Tattnall County): Shooting Range (If the river stage is 9 feet or higher, measured at the Doctortown Gauge, the gates will be closed)

4. Big Lazer Creek WMA (Talbot County): Shooting Range and PFA

5. Bullard Creek WMA (Jeff Davis County): Shooting Range

6. Chickasawhatchee WMA (Dougherty County): Shooting Range

7. Clayhole Swamp WMA (Glynn County): Campground and Ponds (Horseback riding prohibited during ALL deer hunts: Sept. 8-12, Sept. 14-25, Sept. 27-Nov. 8, Nov. 10-18, Dec. 17-Jan.15)

8. Clybel WMA/Marben PFA (Jasper County): Entire Area excluding Charlie Elliott Visitor Center, Conference Center and Educational Buildings (Multi-use trails and areas closed all day during firearms deer hunts: Oct. 5-7, Oct. 25-27, Nov. 15-17, Dec. 14-16, Dec. 21-23. Multi-use trails and areas closed before 10 a.m. during archery and turkey hunts: Sept. 8-Oct. 3, Nov. 3-9, Mar. 23-31, Apr. 6-14, Apr. 20-26, May 1-7, May 11-15)

9. Crockford-Pigeon Mountain WMA (Walker County): Entire Area (Horse, bicycle, caving, hiking, rock climbing, parasailing and hang-gliding trails and areas are closed during firearms deer hunts: Oct. 20-21, Nov. 8-10, Dec. 5-8. Horse and bicycle trails and areas are closed before 10 a.m. during archery deer and turkey hunts: Sept. 8-Oct. 18, Oct. 22-Nov. 6, Nov. 11-16, Mar. 23-May 15)

10. Dawson Forest WMA (Dawson County): North of GA Hwy 53 (Horse and bicycle trails are closed all day during firearms deer hunts: Oct. 12-14, Oct. 25-27, Nov. 14-17, Nov. 28-Dec. 1. Horse and bicycle trails are closed before 10 a.m. during deer archery and turkey hunts: Sept. 8-Oct. 10, Oct. 15-19, Dec. 2-9, Mar. 23-May15. Special rules apply to horse and bicycle use; rules are posted at trailhead. Roads on the City of Atlanta tract are closed to vehicles daily from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. except for individuals legally camping, hunting, or fishing on the area.)

13. Evans County PFA (Evans County): Entire Area (Evans PFA will be under construction from June 1, 2012 to May 1, 2013. Users can call the regional Fisheries Management office (912) 727-2112 ahead of time to check on road and lake conditions prior to visiting.)

14. Flat Creek PFA (Houston County): Entire Area (Closed every Monday and Tuesday)

15. Grand Bay WMA (Lowndes County): Entire Area (Hiking trail from check station is closed to hikers during firearms deer hunts: Sept. 22-23, Oct. 20-21, Oct. 27-28, Nov. 3-4, Nov. 24-25, Dec. 1-2, Dec. 22-23, Dec. 29-30. Federal lands within WMA may be closed for military training)

17. Hugh M. Gillis PFA (Laurens County): Entire Area (Closed every Monday and Tuesday)

18. J.L. Lester WMA (Polk County): Entire Area

19. Mayhaw WMA (Miller County): Shooting Range

20. McDuffie PFA (McDuffie County): Entire Area

21. McGraw Ford WMA (Cherokee County): Entire Area (Horse and bicycle trails are closed before 10 a.m. during deer, bear and turkey hunts: Sept. 8-Dec. 2, Dec. 26-Jan. 1, Mar. 23-May 15)
