Marben Public Fishing Area (PFA) at CEWC takes its name from the combination of Margery and Bennett O'Boyle, previous owners of part of this area. Wildlife Resources Division personnel intensively manages the 22 lakes and ponds, which range in size from 1 - 95 acres and total approximately 295 acres, for bass, bream, catfish, crappie and yellow perch. Most lakes are accessible to both boat and bank anglers with concrete boat ramps and access trails. Some facilities have handicapped-accessible fishing piers and public restrooms. Swimming is not allowed.
Fishing at Marben PFA is allowed only from sunrise to sunset seven days a week, and adults must supervise children under 14 years old. Anglers should note which lakes are open or closed at either the North or South kiosk. Area maps with a list of fish species you can expect to catch in each pond are available at these information boards as well as the Visitor’s Center. Please note the daily limits and any special length restrictions.
Fishing rods and reels are the only gear allowed. Once prohibited, the use of minnows for bait is now allowed. Drinking of alcoholic beverages is not allowed. Boats may be used in any Marben PFA pond. Gas motors operated at idle speed may be used in Fox and Bennett only. In all other ponds, only electric motors or paddles may be used. All boats must carry the required safety equipment, including appropriate personal flotation devices. Boats with gas or electric motors must be registered.
